Our History

NZ Gold Merchants are a family owned and operated business which started in 1975 as an industrial recycler of precious metals. As kids in the eighties, Tony and Richard Coleman spent their school holidays helping their father Bruce, a metallurgist, in the family business – helping to melt silver and incinerate film in their premises in Kyber Pass and Penrose.

By the nineties, and after venturing out on their own, both sons had joined the business in a full-time capacity, Tony having completed a degree in Business Management and Richard gaining qualifications and hands on experience in computers, electronics, plastics and pumps. As the business became more viable, they invested in technology – always striving to enhance processes and improve their efficiency.

In 2006 they started buying, refining and selling gold and trading in precious metals as brothers. They were the first New Zealand company to produce local silver bars and the first to offer gold chain manufactured with local gold.

Now, New Zealand Gold Manufactures are the leaders in precious metals refining and bullion trading in New Zealand. They have built an experienced and credible team which still has a family feel, and continue to invest in the future, positioning themselves as a trusted entity with a comprehensive offering to the market.
